Theme and objective
Nowadays, especially in Brazil, how to transmit electrical energy through great distances has turned into a major problem, as the consume increases and local supllies of energy are deplenished. Looking forward to raise the awareness about this problem, this academic work will present a study of power transmission in direct current as an alternative to the current system global, making a comparison between the pros and cons of both kinds of currents while analizing new technologies, such as HVDC (high voltage direct current), that are appearing as new promises of electrical transmission and to complete this study, simulate situations that would be used each type of transmission.
Justification
Having seen the growing demand for economy in generation, transmission and distribution systems of electricity around the world, make this type of study is very useful for freshmen in engineering electrical course, in training of a theoretical basis that will accompany them during the graduation. Furthermore, taking as a basis the “design norms”, it is essential choose a theme which will help suggest changes to the electric power system transmission and present through simulation some findings for general cases of application of lines transmission.
This study has as main idea of "spec" the question "to what extent it becomes advantageous to use a certain type of power transmission, just because this is the most common?" Then, comes the need to research, analyze, test and assume forms of power transmission and how and where these lines will improve production for society and suppress the cost to the state.
