Introduction to HVDC
One of the main concerns regarding our project always was how to realistically simulate electrical transmissions. Our advisor, the student in mastery degree Homero Krauss, came up with the solution, a tool called MATLAB. With this software we will be able to simulate both direct and alternating current.
Nowadays, specially in Brazil, how to transmit electrical energy through great distances has turned into a major problem, as the consume increases and local supllies of energy are deplenished. Looking forward to raise the awareness about this problem, our group has decided to make a comparison between the pros and cons of both kinds of currents while analizing new technologies, such as HVDC (high voltage direct current), that are appearing as new promises of electrical transmission.
As the project and the group as a whole develops and improve, our path will be made more clear, just as well as our objectives. But the first step towards this final objective has already been taken with a important tool, the MATLAB.
